On one recent such Anthropologie Accessory Examining trip, I discovered the Beaming Featherfew Pin. I love this pin, y'all. Love it. Will be making a knock-off in many colors as soon as I can figure out how to get by on a couple less hours of sleep each night.
The beauty of this knock off pin is its versatility. It can clip onto a belt, looks right at home on a headband, can easily adapt to a more tradition, lapel-y role. And did I mention that it's just beautiful?
Enough gushing! Let's make
-many long, thin strips of jersey (as long as your t-shirt or fabric cut and an inch or so wide)
-pearl beads
-sequins
-a piece of felt or felted wool
-a heavy duty clip or pin
1. Cut long thin strips of jersey (about an inch wide). Double over and press.
2. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew a long straight line down the outside edge, making a long thin tube of fabric.
3. Pin a safety pin through one end and push through the long tube, turning the fabric right side in.
4. Cut into 6" lengths and knot in the middle.
5. Stitch both ends of one of the lengths of jersey to the wool to secure, making a loop with a knot at the center.
6. Repeat and repeat and repeat (twenty-ish times).
7. Start sewing pearl beads and sequins to the coordinating circle of jersey.
8. Once you start attaching the pearl beads around the outer perimeter, sew the beads to the jersey circle and also to the pile of loops/felt backing as well. This will secure the center in place.
9. Run a line of hot glue down the center of the wool backing. Place a pin or clip in the glue and let set up.
10. Pin this gorgeous little gem on belts and cardigans and headbands alike!
ps- Wouldn't this make a great Mother's Day gift?
Ooooh, and definitely head on over to Craftiness is Not Optional where Gwen (from Gwenny Penny) is sharing this GORGEOUS wooden wall plaque!

Hi there! My friend reads your blog and just shared this post with me! I've been addicted to making necklaces out of old tshirts lately... this is the perfect thing to make with the leftover pieces as well!
ReplyDeleteThe jersey curls up so well, I might not even sew to make tubes... fingers crossed it still turns out ;)
Great Anthro hack! Looks like I might just have to stay and browse your blog :)
I LOVE this so I had to try it right away but used t-shirt yarn since that was the easiest thing I had on hand. I linked back to your blog on mine, I hope that's OK. Thank you for the inspiration! I think I'll have to make some more using nicer beads.
