kojotutorial: toddler dress from a shirt (in an hour!)

The spring air has brought on a flurry of girly sewing around here... not for me (yet!), but for my nieces.  This little shirt-to-a-dress overhaul is simple and the result is too cute!

To make a toddler dress from a women's shirt, you'll need:
-a longer smock-ish type shirt (mine was a top from Forever 21 [size small] that never quite worked for me)
-ribbon or fabric for the 'sleeves'
-a sewing machine
1. Slice off the top of the shirt under the arm pits.

2. Fold (and iron) down about 2" of the top of the shirt.  This will become the sleeve casing.  Cut arm holes on each side.  I measured 3" in from the edges horizontally and 4" down vertically, connected the two into a little triangle and cut.
3. Either double roll and iron or serge and iron the arm holes and the casing.  Stitch these two seams down.

4. Thread your ribbon or fabric through the casing.  Sew it together, making a loop.  Done!
