family vacation just wouldn't be complete without...

...our Ludwig Family Drink Competition! As most of you know, the family drink contest pre-dates Cocktails and Mocktails. We do one almost every time we all get together (which is only a couple times a year), and it's always one of my favorite nights!

Part of the fun is that everyone Goes. All. Out (remember the dry ice of yore?)! We're talking glow sticks...
...and helium balloons...
...and custom made "Choose Your Own Adventure Drink" Board Games...
...and embroidered drink signs...
...and hollowed out coconuts.

It's serious. And fabulous. And seriously fabulous. Even the mocktails are legit (the biggest hit with the kiddos this year was Aunt Kiji's Jello)!

This year's entries were Beach Magic (a spin on the traditional pina colada), Corona-Ritas, Rosemary Peach Lemonade, Jello Shots (there were three varieties- Margarita, Pina Colada, and Strawberry Daquiri), and Birthday Cake Martini's.

And, y'all, Adam and I won! We never win (seriously, we haven't ever won before... actually, I think everyone's won besides us). That Rosemary Peach Lemonade is yummy stuff!

I think I say this every time, but I would highly recommend having some sort of annual family competition! Whether you compete with cocktails, mocktails, zucchini (this would be great at the end of August for a family of gardeners!), cupcakes, bacon (we have some ideas coming for you)- the possibilities are endless. Friendly competition = family fun!

Do y'all have any favorite annual family traditions?

ps- Sorry about the pics in this one... nighttime, inside, not great light, you understand.

  4. What a terrific idea! I can't wait to start this up with my family. Our family always makes our own birthday cards-usually with screenshots from favorite movies.

  6. Hey Would love to hear some of your ideas for a party. This would be great for a back yard BBQ. I am having a baby in September and want ot have friends over to meet the baby and hang out. This would be a fun way to get everyone together.
