THEME
Since Mike and Amy aren't finding out the baby's gender, and since their nursery is gray and yellow elephants (and y'all know how I love making shower decor that can be reused as nursery decor!), Elephants on Parade became our shower theme.
DECOR
The shower decor was a conglomeration of yellow, white and gray and circus-y touches- a giant balloon garland, a mini big top floating over the favor table, a pom pom-y "Welcome Little Peanut" garland, a yellow flag bunting, apothecary jars filled with yellow and white goodies, a parading elephants wreath, yellow pleated trim, splashes of yellow and gray grosgrain ribbon, and all sorts of yellow, gray and elephant-y fabric (yellow stripes from Ikea, Tiny Elephants in Ivory on Lemon Yellow by Daiwabo, Menagerie in Yellow by Violet Craft, and Castle Fortress in Cardinal Red by Lizzy House, plus gray felt and the Ofelia Throw by Ikea).
The signage featured lines of parading elephants, the font "Oshare" as well as single elephants here and there (like on the cupcake toppers).
FAIR FOOD
My husband and our co-host Jonathan both LOVE to cook. Putting those two in charge of dinner was my best move of this whole shower- it was possibly the best shower food ever! To be fair, when your menu consists of Fair Food like funnel cake and fried pickles, of course it is going to be great. Most of the food fit in the "Classic Fair Food" or "Food on a Stick" categories (you'll notice that most of the Foods on a Stick are healthier fare- the mama to be leans towards the healthier end of the food spectrum and we wanted to make sure there were plenty of Amy Items to accompany the bevy of funnel cake-esque options).
Elephants on Parade Shower Menu-
Chicken Veggie Scewers
Chicago Dogs
Fried Pickles with Aioli
Kettle Corn
Jalapeno Poppers
Grilled Corn
Fruit Scewers
Tomato-Basil-Mozzarella Scewers
Lamars Donuts (not fried like you'd find at the fair, though)
Funnel Cakes
Various sweets on the treat table
WATERING HOLE
The all-yellow drink station (or "Watering Hole") was stocked with Apple and Clementine Izzes, San Pellegrinos, Peach Lemonade, Yellow Sobes, and Beer. The elephants on parade bottle wrappers added an extra pop of yellow, as did their ribbon bedecked stand.
FAVORS
The elephants on parade favors were glasses etched with buntings and garlands, filled with Circus Peanut candies. The sign read, "raise a glass in celebration of the little peanut!" Though, the mini big top hovering around the favor table was probably as much of a hit as the favors themselves (especially with the pint-sized guests).
Congratulations Mike and Amy!
We can't wait to meet your little peanut!
This is one of the best showers you've thrown. I love the "watering hole!" SO cute.
